It is a widely accepted belief in our culture that health is governed by genetics. Furthermore, we’ve been told that there’s not much we can do about genetic composition, so in essence, genes have a control of your life. This is, what some people call a victimization by genetics. Proponents of epigenetics, on the other hand, claim that changes in environment, consciousness and behavior can change the genes. Bruce Lipton, one of the pioneers of this movement, further says that health in its optimal state starts with understanding the works of our mind.
- Bruce Lipton is an award-winning cellular biologist, research scientist author and professor.
- Lipton is a proponent of epigenetics, which proposes that genetics can be altered by environments, behavior and consciousness.
- Lipton attests that while the conscious mind is creative, the unconscious mind is programmed, acting without our conscious awareness of it.
“So we have programmed people to be victims, believing that they have no power over their lives. It’s the total opposite picture with epigenetics, [which] reveals… the individual consciousness is controlling the genetic activity. So if I change my consciousness, then I can control my genetics. And all of a sudden, you go from victim to master.”
